Sports
Daily exercise, weekly games, and community sports events that build fitness, teamwork, fair play, and leadership.
Sports is part of a healthy childhood and a healthier community. It gives children exercise, teaches teamwork and fair play, develops leadership, and includes those who might otherwise be left out. Children also learn better when they are active and enjoying themselves.
In village schools, sports is part of the weekly curriculum: daily exercise and a weekly games time. Once a year there is a sports day, with competitions between schools where possible. District office staff help the local supervisor and teachers run these days.
Near Bogura we organise an annual Kidz Games event, bringing together up to 400 children from surrounding schools. Games are designed so every child takes part, teams have to cooperate, and children get a chance to lead. Parents are involved. The event also trains new leaders so the programme can spread to other districts.
Each year we run a one-month residential course for up to ten people who want to become coaches. Training covers both classroom and playing field: knowledge of the sport, coaching method, fitness, technique, fair play, and moral values.
